BASS AMPLIFIERS

There are three basic bass amp types:

Generally, power ratings for bass amps range from 50 to 1000 watts.

TUBE

The first bass amps used tubes in their pre and post stages to develop tone and power.  Tube amps generate
warm overtones in the pre amp stage and awesome power in their power stage.  However, the vacuum tubes
must be replaced regularly (especially after significant use).

TRANSISTOR

Companies started developing transistor  (or solid state) amps for tone and power.  Transistor amps are lighter
and have more operational longevity than tube amps.  Generally, tube amps have a more warm sound than solid
state amps.   While transistor amps create a clean thinner sound.

Hybrid

Hybrid amps use a combination of a tube pre amp and a transistor power amp.  This gives the warm tones
developed by tubes and the power and light weight delivered by the transistor stage.
